Just thought I'd get in some early publicity. A reasonable number of you will remember singing the Carl Vine Choral Symphony with MUCS in 1999. Well, it's on again:

Ravel's Daphnis and Chloe
Carl Vine's Choral Symphony
Melbourne University Choral Society
In association with the Victorian College of the Arts Orchestra and School of Dance
Melbourne Town Hall
May 20th, 2004

'tis sounding interesting, although I think we could do with a few more bods that have sung it before. And the Ravel is sounding quite cool too. We just got the first chance to rehearse it earlier this evening, and even without any of the orchestration, it ain't bad.

Grammar God!
You are a GRAMMAR GOD!

If your mission in life is not already to
preserve the English tongue, it should be.
Congratulations and thank you!

How grammatically sound are you?

Also, wandering through an Internet Junk Shop, I discovered that Upon your head there falls true love! in a locket attached is a note, reading I will eat you when you sleep

I, too, are a grammar god.

I'm entertained by the fact that there's a spleling error in one of the other results, though.

PS - do you still have recordings of past choral performances? I'd love some :)

I just want to congratulate whoever coded the MU Choral Society website. Someone who takes design and standards seriously. I like that in a website.

Thanks for the offer of looking after me last night, but [livejournal.com profile] paula_angela did it. I would have called to tell you, but I forgot until this morning when I got in and saw your post.

I had a migraine, so I know why I was not thinking. But I am still sorry.

Mea culpa...I can *that* close to getting along to MUCS last night...still haven't joined-up and I fear that it's too late. I loved performing the CArl Vine last time, but there's lot long left to learn the other stuff. :(

If you did the Vine last time, don't sweat, as it would already be somewhat familiar to you, and shouldn't require too much effort to learn again. MUCS only saw the other item on the program for the first time last night, so you've only missed one rehearsal on that.

Well, we only just started the Daphnis and Chloe, really.
Ah, that's a relief...haven't missed much, in other words. Ta for the update and gentle prompt. I'll give it a shot next week! :)

Basically the choir is an orchestral part.
Love that sorta stuff...can't wait. You're right about that style of singing requiring concentration. It comes down to timing, and when you're not concentrating on wording and enunciation then you can really fine-tune the "blending" of voices no matter what harmonies are being asked for.

PS: the test thingy said this of me: You are a GRAMMAR GOD!
PPS: <PLUG> while I'm at it, anyone need the services of an experienced Technical Writer who, I might add, has godlike grammatical skills?
